Privacy Policy

The short version

OpenShape3D is designed to work entirely on your device. Your sketches, models, and projects are stored locally. A design leaves your device only when you choose to send it — to open it on the web, or with a bug report — and only that design is sent. The app does not require an account, and we do not sell data to anyone.

The OpenShape3D app

• Your projects stay on your device. Models, sketches, and project files are saved locally on your iPad or iPhone. If you choose to export or share a file, it goes only where you send it.
• Open on the Web. If you choose Export ▸ Open on the Web and press Send, the app uploads that design (.os3d file) to app.openshape3d.com and gives you a link. Anyone with the link can open the design for 24 hours; after that the link stops working and the file is deleted (our storage provider keeps deleted files recoverable for up to 7 more days). Nothing else is sent with it.
• Bug reports. If you send a bug report, it contains what you type, your app and iOS version and device type, and — only if you leave the option on — the open design, so we can reproduce the problem. You can add an email address if you'd like a reply. Reports are only visible to us.
• No account required. The app does not ask you to sign up or log in, and it does not collect your name, email address, or contacts.
• Diagnostics. If your device is set to share analytics with app developers, Apple may provide us with aggregated, anonymized crash reports and usage statistics through App Store Connect. This data is not linked to your identity, and you can turn it off in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements.

The web app

app.openshape3d.com runs the modeling engine in your browser. Files you open there are read and rebuilt on your computer and are not uploaded; your designs are saved in your browser. It has no analytics and no account. Designs sent from the iOS app with Open on the Web are stored as described above, and bug reports sent from the web app are handled like the app's.

This website

openshape3d.com uses Google Firebase Analytics to understand aggregate site traffic — things like page views, approximate region, and browser type. This may involve cookies or similar identifiers set by Google. We use this information only to understand how the site is used; we do not use it to identify you. You can learn how Google handles this data at policies.google.com/privacy, and you can block analytics with standard browser tools or content blockers without affecting the site.

What we don't do

• We do not sell or rent your data.
• We do not show ads or use advertising trackers.
• We do not access your camera, microphone, location, photos, or contacts.
• We do not upload your models or projects unless you choose to send one.

Children's privacy

The app and website do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app doesn't require any personal data, so it is safe for users of all ages.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change how the app or website handles data, we will update this page and revise the date at the top. Because the project is open source, you can also verify exactly what the app does by reading the code.
